How to get CAPM Certified?

After you meet the eligibility requirements, you're all set to get CAPM® certification under your belt. You'll start by registering for a PMI account and filling out an online application. Once you kick start your application process it will remain open for 90 days. On submission, it can take up to 5 days to review your application for completeness.

After a successful completeness review, you will receive an email confirmation. You will have to pay your exam fees and schedule the exam. A percentage of applications will be randomly selected for an audit, which is when PMI expects you to submit copies of educational certifications, experience certifications and other requirements for quality checking. The PMI audit usually takes up to 5-7 business days.

Once you've made it through the audit process, your one-year examination eligibility period begins. There isn't a set passing score for the test. The passing score varies for each exam as it is determined by psychometric analysis. If you didn’t pass on the first attempt, stay motivated, because you're allowed up to three attempts within that year long period to pass the exam.

CAPM Certification validity and Renewal Process

Once you have successfully passed the CAPM® exam, your certification will be valid for 5 years. The 5-year period begins when you pass the actual exam, not the date you registered. PMI offers a recertification process that allows the CAPM® certificates to remain valid even after expiration and without retaking the exam. Candidates can renew their certificates by earning 15 PDUs within 3 years of the certification cycle and paying renewal fees of $60 for PMI members and $150 for non-PMI members.
